Your story is very interesting, inspiring, and funny. I was fascinated with the descriptions of travel. The story about dreading the meeting with your Dad with the news that the regular job had end, had such a happy ending. All that dread for nothing. Dad and you had a love fest. Talked with love, not judgement. And the story
about the king cake from Haydels, delightful. I love Haydels King cake. I am about to travel along the Gulf coast to Pensacola, reading your stories reminded me to slow down enjoy the ride and keep dreaming.

Saturday I board an Amtrak in Houston, destination Spokane, via San Antonio and Chicago.

And then the trip begins. Picking up my Suzuki Samurai in Spokane. First order of business, tool around the Seattle area, then to Eurka and the Redwoods. PCH down the coast to Muir woods, Golden Gate Rec area, and of course San Fran.

Then it gets good, Yosemite, Tahoe/Reno, and on to salt Lake and Park City UT. Then the Four Corners and it's plethora of Parks and sights.

Have to visit the hot springs in Glenwood Springs, CO, visit old friends outside of Boulder, and, of course, a search for ET at and around Roswell, NM. Since I'm nearby, Carlsbad seems like a good call.

Wrapping up, I'll camp out in Big Bend Nat Park, Swing by Marble Falls, TX, Austin 6th St,, the River Walk in SA, and finally head home to Galveston via the Blue Water Hwy,

I'm giving myself a rough timeline of 3 - 4 weeks. No hurries, worries, or clocks.

Wish me luck! Taking all items mentioned in your list of Roadtrip essentials! Thanks!

We have been traveling the country in a 36' foot motor coach and we have been missing the real America, now going to park the rig and get a conversion van and travel the back country staying at State and National parks.
