Wow, must be a very interesting tour to see a coal mine. It’s crazy that it wasn’t really so long ago that it closed down and that things have changed so much. Interesting more than anything.

In reply to Chris. Chris, That's an interesting angle. I never really thought about the fact that people left their homelands to come to North America and work in a mine. Must have been impossible to make a living in their homelands.

This article makes me think of how hard life was back then, and also that most of the workers came from Europe to perform this difficult backbreaking work. We can only guess how hard it must have been in their homeland to make this seem more appealing!

This looks like an interesting tour and reinforces my feeling of guilty. Close to the city where I grew up in Yorkshire there is a National Coal Mining Museum and I’ve still yet to go! It is on my list though.

The world has changed a lot since 1984 and the range of mines has too. However taking your pay cheque straight to the watering hole hasn’t changed quite so much ;-)
