The Rambler Manifesto

The Rambler Manifesto

The Rambler Manifesto

Welcome to The Constant Rambler! Here you can get travel advice along with playful stories from a rambling couple along with the occasional chime-in from their nutty pets.
On this journey of friends (old and new), family, and pets we wanted to share our adventures with the world. This blog will be fed with tales of our joys and sorrows, challenges and successes, disappointments and victories.
We have always loved traveling. Whether it be by plane, train, or automobile for a quick weekend trip or an epic adventure just say the word and our bags are packed.

How did we decide to blog about it?

After years of working in retail and a poor work/life balance we decided we’d had enough. A change was necessary to save both our quality of life and our marriage. We walked away from our careers, a steady paycheck, and the rat race. We took two adults, two dogs, two duffel bags and one Volkswagen GTI and hit the road for the classic American road trip. We set a goal of driving from Miami, FL to Seattle,WA and back in 30 days.

Along our trip we visited friends and family, saw amazing sites, and had a ton of awesome adventures. We slept in the car, at pet-friendly hotels and at the occasional relative’s home. We had a loose schedule and even looser plans, we set out to enjoy the journey despite the destination. Along the way our trip transformed us and became something larger; it became a reason for us to start dreaming again. Once the dream set in we started believing, believing in a life where a husband and wife can be side by side living their dreams together of traveling the American roads and seeking out new adventures.

We know there are more people out there like us. People who enjoy travel and adventures more than stuffy offices and 60-hour work weeks. Whether you’re just taking a break from your regular 9-5, entering a new stage in life, or going off the grid completely, we want to encourage people to reach for and live their dreams.
With that being said, kick back, take a read, and ramble on….

A very interesting site and love to read about your adventures. We have been traveling the country in a 36′ foot motor coach and we have been missing the real America, now going to park the rig and get a conversion van and travel the back country staying at State and National parks.

Saturday I board an Amtrak in Houston, destination Spokane, via San Antonio and Chicago.

And then the trip begins. Picking up my Suzuki Samurai in Spokane. First order of business, tool around the Seattle area, then to Eurka and the Redwoods. PCH down the coast to Muir woods, Golden Gate Rec area, and of course San Fran.

Then it gets good, Yosemite, Tahoe/Reno, and on to salt Lake and Park City UT. Then the Four Corners and it’s plethora of Parks and sights.

Have to visit the hot springs in Glenwood Springs, CO, visit old friends outside of Boulder, and, of course, a search for ET at and around Roswell, NM. Since I’m nearby, Carlsbad seems like a good call.

Wrapping up, I’ll camp out in Big Bend Nat Park, Swing by Marble Falls, TX, Austin 6th St,, the River Walk in SA, and finally head home to Galveston via the Blue Water Hwy,

I’m giving myself a rough timeline of 3 – 4 weeks. No hurries, worries, or clocks.

Wish me luck! Taking all items mentioned in your list of Roadtrip essentials! Thanks!

Your story is very interesting, inspiring, and funny. I was fascinated with the descriptions of travel. The story about dreading the meeting with your Dad with the news that the regular job had end, had such a happy ending. All that dread for nothing. Dad and you had a love fest. Talked with love, not judgement. And the story
about the king cake from Haydels, delightful. I love Haydels King cake. I am about to travel along the Gulf coast to Pensacola, reading your stories reminded me to slow down enjoy the ride and keep dreaming.
