For the last 20 Years the city of Lake Worth, Fl has held an annual Street Painting Festival. We had an awesome time at the festival and wanted to share some pictures of the event. It’s truly fascinating to see what emerges on the street “canvas” in less than 48 hours using just chalk. Sadly there is no way to preserve the images and they only last until the next rain.
Held in early February each year, the city of Lake Worth, FL turns their streets into the largest festival of its kind. With over 400 artists and 200 unique “canvases” the creativity is incredible. You can find all kinds of art from classical reproductions to pop art mashups to completely unique works.
As the Street Painting Festival begins the artists all get to work creating their temporary masterpieces.
All artists are limited to one medium: Chalk
The artists work quickly for the pieces come together since they are racing against time and mother nature.
Many pieces are simple and classical in nature with surprising levels of detail.
Some pieces take inspiration from movies and pop culture.
While other artists delve into more surreal works.
For other artists animals were the star of the show.
One of my favorites were the artists that specialized on perspective pieces. They drew in a way that gave a 3-D look and feel to their work.
Even kids can get into the Street Painting Festival with their own designated section.
The Street Painting Festival is about more than just watching the artists do their thing. During the event the audience participated in the festival by singing or providing other forms of entertainment.
The Street Painting Festival runs for two days and is a great time for everyone who attends. For more information on next years Street Painting Festival take a look at the official website at StreetPaintingFestivalinc.org.
