Seeing the Grand Canyon was something that was on my travel bucket list for the majority of my life until I finally had the chance to see it back in 2012. Unlike a lot of other landmarks and destinations though I find the Grand Canyon is one of those sites that you can return to and always have a different experience. When we were given the chance to take a Grand Canyon Railway Tour the last time we were in Sedona, AZ , Lauren and I hopped at the chance. I mean come on how often do you get to see the Grand Canyon and ride a train in the same day??
Route 66 means a lot of things to a lot of different people in America. In fact, It’s probably one of America’s most written about roads and has become it’s own cultural icon of sorts. To date, there’s been a TV show and songs written about it, in addition to tons of memorabilia that ranges from commemorative maps to reproduction street signs. The road is even featured in Disney’s movie, Cars. There’s no question that Route 66 holds a special place in many American hearts. So what is it about Route 66 that makes it so special? Why is a Route 66 Road Trip so deeply entrenched in American Culture? We spent a day on America’s Mother Road last fall, and I can tell ya, it’s was a great peek into the days of yore.
The Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona is easily described as one of the most exotic National Parks, we’ve ever visited. The combination of desert landscape and wickedly awesome fossils definitely make this park a “must visit” if you’re in the area . We visited the Petrified Forest while on our road trip through Arizona to New Mexico, and were stunned by its natural beauty.
While on our way to the Grand Canyon, we made a planned stop in the small junction town of Williams, Arizona where State Rt 64 & Hwy 180 intersect. Flintstones Bedrock City was mentioned to us by a very good friend and we valued his recommendation (and I really loved the cartoon growing up). Kenin and I set off very early in the morning to get there and check out the “Bedrock City”. We were not disappointed and just had to share it with the world!
The Grand Canyon is by far one of Americas greatest natural wonders. Many family vacations, road trips, and other adventures are centered around visiting it. We recently took a road trip to the Grand Canyon’s South Rim and had our minds completely blown! I wanted to share this road trip planner for visiting the Grand Canyon South Rim from the Flagstaff or Sedona Arizona area with you.
If you follow our route, you’ll have a solid day of fun, and see two other National Parks in the same day!
